Return Receipt
Text Box: 1.  Fees in addition to regular postage.  Service first established in 1855.  Many of the fee charges listed resulted from PMG orders which are not listed in the
    chronology of legislative acts.
2.  From its inception in 1918, registry fees for airmail were the same as first class.
3.  Applicable only to letters of other matter on which letter postage was paid.
4.  Provided that a return receipt from addresses be returned to sender.
5.  In 1878 service extended to third class with proviso that registered first class must be sealed and registered third class must be unsealed.
6.  Registration made available by administrative instruction on first, third, and fourth class with requirement that latter two categories be unsealed  and
     and first-class mail be sealed.
7.  In 1913, with establishment of parcel post system and insurance for parcels, the indemnity provided was no longer applicable to fourth-class mail.
However, such matter sealed and bearing first class postage could be registered as first-class matter.
8. This  embraces fourth class if sealed and postage paid at the first-class rates.
